Come join us for our Kick-Off Event for 2011 at Southwyck Lanes for bowling on Sunday, September 11th from 7:00-9:00 pm.  The cost to you is $5.00 for 2 games of bowling and shoe rental (you’ll want to bring your own socks though).  We’re going to be getting you Pizza from East of Chicago.  It is going to be fun, you’re going to want to bring your friends, because all High School students are welcome.

The following week, Sunday, September 18th is going to be our first REVAMPED Youth Group back at St. Joan of Arc. We are going to have a Teen Led Presentation & Discussion on “Truth and Falsehood”.  There will be Snack and Social time from 7:00-7:30 p.m. followed by the presentation and discussion.  There will be small group with small groups that you choose to pick, a wrap up discussion and prayer.

The following week will be an area LIFE TEEN Gathering at St. Joe’s Maumee with St. Rose, St. Pat’s, & St. Catherine’s, where we will compete to see which Youth Group donated the largest pile of Baby Goods, i.e. Diapers, Formula, Toys, etc.  So get started, bring in tons of stuff to donate to Heartbeat of Toledo so that we win the Competition with the other parishes and so that we can help those in need as well!

The Toledo YES Project is a unique opportunity for high school students from the Toledo area to come together to do as Jesus did: to love and to serve those who are most in need.

Each year the project consists of 130 – 150 youth and approximately 70 adult volunteers coming together for four days and doing Christian service in and around Toledo, Ohio. We have as many as 15 sites throughout the greater Toledo area where we will scrape, paint, clean, landscape, and perform any other tasks that may be needed to improve the living situation of those we are helping.  The ultimate goal is to spread the love of Christ and His message of hope to those who need it most.

Most of our work consists of helping private homeowners who are physically and/or financially unable to maintain or improve their homes.  We have also helped at various non-profit groups, including women’s shelters, family shelters, community centers, churches and homeless outreach facilities.

Pray for those contemplating suicide that they might be able to hold on for just one more day!

Too often we leave these experiences and it seems like there is an empty vortex of the life we had led before our experience trying to suck us back down to our former level of existence.  Trying to suck us right back into everything we had vowed we would never do again.  And when we slip a little, we lose sight of the mountaintop

and we seem to continue to spiral back down to where we once were.  Maybe it would help if we really acknowledged what it is that is trying to drag us down.  I believe that it is Satan’s evil angels trying to draw us back away from our amazing God and as soon as they get us to slip up even a little, it is that much easier for them to drag us down the rest of the way.

We come home and begin complaining about going to church, how the music isn’t good enough, how the pastor’s homily was bad, how the people in the church bother us, and how the Mass just isn’t the same, and we begin to lose sight of that life-changing experience we just had.  We begin to think that the God we experienced is only in that other place and that we are going to have to wait another year before we meet Him again, but that is where we are wrong.  It isn’t our God who changes, it is us who change.  Our God is never changing, He is always powerful, always amazing, always glorious and we could see that if we really wanted to.  Our God in the Eucharist at Holy Mass is the same God made Man, the same Jesus Christ who healed the lepers, opened the eyes of the blind, that raised the dead.  And sometimes we see that same Jesus Christ when we go to an amazing retreat.

Let’s work on keeping the vows that we make on retreats like these.  Let’s work on keeping our focus on that Jesus Christ that we know is all powerful, all glorious, all amazing.  Let’s work on changing our hearts, to love our Lord God with every fabric of our being and know that it is us who need to change and not our amazing God.

He longs for you!  Long for Him!
