The SJA LIFE TEEN® Fall Kick-Off is THIS Sunday and Next Sunday!

Come check out what the SJA LIFE TEEN® Youth Group has to offer you this year, by joining us for a cookout and fun THIS Sunday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Parish Courtyard and Community Room. All High School Youth are INVITED and encouraged to bring friends (who knows, there may even be some sort of prize available for the person who brings the most friends).

We will continue our Fall Kick-off Celebration next Sunday as well, same time, same location. Come get to know the other High School Youth right here in your parish.

We are just going to keep getting better and better! Don’t miss out! See you Sunday.

Write ‘LOVE’ on your arms day

September 5-11 is National Suicide Prevention Week. Suicide is the third most common cause of death for 18-24 year olds. Today, Wednesday, September 8th, on the Feast of the Birth of Mary, I want to encourage all of you to write, paint, color or draw the word “LOVE” on your arm or wrist as a form of recognition. Create a beautiful canvas out of that which might seem another’s last resort. Know that your compassion will spread. Trust that we can replace guns, ropes, blades and bottles with hope. Love is the movement. Pray without ceasing!

There will be no Rock the Flock on Wednesday, July 28th, but we are having our Parish Picnic and I will be there, so stop by for some food and come chat with me. We will be resuming Rock the Flock on Wednesday, August 4th from 7:00-9:00 pm. Looking forward to getting rocking again.

Y.E.S. Project

Time to practice our faith and help those in need in our community. The Toledo Area Y.E.S. (Youth Elect Service) Project is an opportunity for the youth of the Toledo Area to get together and serve, hang out, pray and have fun. If you didn’t make it in to the Y.E.S. Project this year, we hope you will be able to join us next year.

Our Never-changing God

Have you ever had one of those amazing God experiences? One of those times where all doubt about His existence simply fades away and made it clear that He IS there? Then you vow to be different, you vow to change for the better, you tell yourself that there is no way you will ever go back to living life the way you had before. Sometimes we call it a sort of “HIGH”, a mountaintop experience. The problem lies in how long (or short) that experience, that vow to change, lasts.

Too often we leave these experiences and it seems like there is an empty vortex of the life we had led before our experience trying to suck us back down to our former level of existence. Trying to suck us right back into everything we had vowed we would never do again. And when we slip a little, we lose sight of the mountaintop

and we seem to continue to spiral back down to where we once were. Maybe it would help if we really acknowledged what it is that is trying to drag us down. I believe that it is Satan’s evil angels trying to draw us back away from our amazing God and as soon as they get us to slip up even a little, it is that much easier for them to drag us down the rest of the way.

We come home and begin complaining about going to church, how the music isn’t good enough, how the pastor’s homily was bad, how the people in the church bother us, and how the Mass just isn’t the same, and we begin to lose sight of that life-changing experience we just had. We begin to think that the God we experienced is only in that other place and that we are going to have to wait another year before we meet Him again, but that is where we are wrong. It isn’t our God who changes, it is us who change. Our God is never changing, He is always powerful, always amazing, always glorious and we could see that if we really wanted to. Our God in the Eucharist at Holy Mass is the same God made Man, the same Jesus Christ who healed the lepers, opened the eyes of the blind, that raised the dead. And sometimes we see that same Jesus Christ when we go to an amazing retreat.

Let’s work on keeping the vows that we make on retreats like these. Let’s work on keeping our focus on that Jesus Christ that we know is all powerful, all glorious, all amazing. Let’s work on changing our hearts, to love our Lord God with every fabric of our being and know that it is us who need to change and not our amazing God.

He longs for you! Long for Him!

Youth Group Cookout

Hey…Let’s have a Youth Group Cookout, where we can just hang out, do some chillin’ and scarf on some delicious food. We’ll take some time to just relax and enjoy everyone’s company, talk and do some P&Ws for our God, of course. So bring a snack to share, a 2 liter, or dessert and we will provide the burgers, dogs and buns. Bring your friends, bring your fun yard stuff and let’s just have a chill night! 7:00-9:00 pm right here at St. Joan of Arc.
