Swan Point Care Center Visit
Oct 10th
This past Sunday, a group of us went to Swan Point Care Center to begin a year-long ministry to the residents there. We had an amazing time just getting to know some of the residents who warmly welcomed us. Each month we will travel over there to share our love with the residents. We have been charged by the late, great Pope John Paul II to, “let your light shine” and that is what we aim to through this ministry opportunity. So mark your calendars for Sunday, November 13 which will be our second visit to Swan Point Care Center.
Revamped Youth Group
Sep 2nd
The NEW, REVAMPED, REJUVENATED Youth Group is coming. You want a Youth Group that meets your needs, that appeals to you, that discusses things that actually happen in your life and actually pertain to you. You want a place where you can grow, hang with friends and feel like you’ve really spent your precious time wisely. You’ve voiced your concerns, you’ve told us what you want, now we deliver!
Come join us for our Kick-Off Event for 2011 at Southwyck Lanes for bowling on Sunday, September 11th from 7:00-9:00 pm. The cost to you is $5.00 for 2 games of bowling and shoe rental (you’ll want to bring your own socks though). We’re going to be getting you Pizza from East of Chicago. It is going to be fun, you’re going to want to bring your friends, because all High School students are welcome.
The following week, Sunday, September 18th is going to be our first REVAMPED Youth Group back at St. Joan of Arc. We are going to have a Teen Led Presentation & Discussion on “Truth and Falsehood”. There will be Snack and Social time from 7:00-7:30 p.m. followed by the presentation and discussion. There will be small group with small groups that you choose to pick, a wrap up discussion and prayer.
The following week will be an area LIFE TEEN Gathering at St. Joe’s Maumee with St. Rose, St. Pat’s, & St. Catherine’s, where we will compete to see which Youth Group donated the largest pile of Baby Goods, i.e. Diapers, Formula, Toys, etc. So get started, bring in tons of stuff to donate to Heartbeat of Toledo so that we win the Competition with the other parishes and so that we can help those in need as well!
Keep posted here for additional information and Youth Group updates.
Toledo Y.E.S. Project
Apr 15th
The Toledo YES Project is a unique opportunity for high school students from the Toledo area to come together to do as Jesus did: to love and to serve those who are most in need.
Each year the project consists of 130 – 150 youth and approximately 70 adult volunteers coming together for four days and doing Christian service in and around Toledo, Ohio. We have as many as 15 sites throughout the greater Toledo area where we will scrape, paint, clean, landscape, and perform any other tasks that may be needed to improve the living situation of those we are helping. The ultimate goal is to spread the love of Christ and His message of hope to those who need it most.
Most of our work consists of helping private homeowners who are physically and/or financially unable to maintain or improve their homes. We have also helped at various non-profit groups, including women’s shelters, family shelters, community centers, churches and homeless outreach facilities.
If you are interested in being a part of this year’s Toledo YES Project, follow this link www.toledoyesproject.org and click on forms or go to the Forms tab right here on our site to get the applications. This fills up very fast, so act now and get your form in, to be sure you can participate this summer.

Write ‘LOVE’ on your arms day
Sep 8th
September 5-11 is National Suicide Prevention Week. Suicide is the third most common cause of death for 18-24 year olds. Today, Wednesday, September 8th, on the Feast of the Birth of Mary, I want to encourage all of you to write, paint, color or draw the word “LOVE” on your arm or wrist as a form of recognition. Create a beautiful canvas out of that which might seem another’s last resort. Know that your compassion will spread. Trust that we can replace guns, ropes, blades and bottles with hope. Love is the movement. Pray without ceasing!

“For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.” ~ Jeremiah 29:11
Pray for those contemplating suicide that they might be able to hold on for just one more day!
Our Never-changing God
Jul 13th
Have you ever had one of those amazing God experiences? One of those times where all doubt about His existence simply fades away and made it clear that He IS there? Then you vow to be different, you vow to change for the better, you tell yourself that there is no way you will ever go back to living life the way you had before. Sometimes we call it a sort of “HIGH”, a mountaintop experience. The problem lies in how long (or short) that experience, that vow to change, lasts.
Too often we leave these experiences and it seems like there is an empty vortex of the life we had led before our experience trying to suck us back down to our former level of existence. Trying to suck us right back into everything we had vowed we would never do again. And when we slip a little, we lose sight of the mountaintop
Steubenville
Jun 29th
Well what can I say, but that once again the Steubenville Summer Youth Conference was AMAZING as always. For those of you who went along with us, I’ll be praying for you to be able to keep the fire alive and to be able to stand up to the challenges that are going to be facing you since leaving the conference. For those of you who weren’t able to go with us this year, I’ll be praying for you that you might have the opportunity to join us next summer. And to all you parents out there who let your kid go with us and maybe even encouraged them to go, thank you!
We were encouraged to not let this experience just be a weekend conference thing, but to keep it
Rock the Flock Reflection
Nov 4th
The day is over, you are driving home. You tune in your radio. You hear a little blurb about a little village in India where some villagers have died suddenly, strangely, of a flu that has never been seen before. You don’t think much about it, but on Sunday, coming home from church, you hear another radio spot. Only they say its not three villagers, its 30,000 villagers in the back hills of this particular area of India, and it’s on TV that night. By Monday morning when you get up, it’s the lead story. For its not just India; it’s Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and before you know it, you’re hearing this story everywhere and they have coined it now as “the mystery flu.” The President has made some comment that he and everyone are praying and hoping that all will go well over there But everyone is wondering, How are we going to contain it? That’s when the President of France makes an announcement that shocks Europe. He is closing their borders. No flights from India, Pakistan, or any of the countries where this thing has been seen.
Your jaw hits your chest when a weeping woman is translated from a French news program
A TEENAGER’S VIEW OF HEAVEN
Aug 27th
17-year-old Brian Moore had only a short time to write something for a class. The subject was what Heaven was like. ‘I wowed ‘em,’ he later told his father, Bruce. ‘It’s a killer. It’s the bomb. It’s the best thing I ever wrote..’ It also was the last.
Brian Moore died May 27, 1997, the day after Memorial Day. He was driving home from a friend’s house when his car went off Bulen-Pierce Road in Pickaway County and struck a utility pole. He emerged from the wreck unharmed but stepped on a downed power line and was electrocuted.
Rock the Flock Reflection
Aug 15th
At Rock the Flock, we reflected on the Parable of the Rich Young Man from the Matthew 19:16-30. The young man asked Jesus, “Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?”, Jesus replied, “If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.” The young man, after hearing which commandments he needed to keep, told Jesus, “I have kept all these, what do I still lack?” and Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be perfect, go , sell your possessions, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.” When the young man heard this word, he went away grieving, for he had many possessions.
Likewise, Pope John Paul II says, “reject the seduction of wealth and consumerism and subtle violence sometimes used by the mass media, these all lead to a spiritual vacuum”.
We all have a lot of possessions…what are we willing to give up in order to follow Jesus?
Rock the Flock Reflection
Jul 9th
“Dear young people: Do not be afraid of Christ! He takes nothing away, and he gives you everything. When we give ourselves to him, we receive a hundredfold in return. Yes, open, open wide the doors to Christ – and you will find true life.”
Pope Benedict XVI—From the homily of his inaugural Mass—April 25, 2005
“You’re my Prince of Peace and I will live my life for you.”
What does this all mean? What are we supposed to do? How do we live our lives for Christ?
We DENY ourselves and stop living just for us…we stop being selfish and thinking that we are the only one that matters. It isn’t all about what makes us happy and feel good…it is about what Christ is calling us to do and how He is calling us to live our lives.
Don’t be afraid of what others will say or think of you when you decide to REALLY begin living your life for God…it doesn’t matter what they think of you…all that matters is how God sees you and what HE thinks of you.
“I’d rather be a fool in the eyes of man, than a fool in the eyes of God.”
Go ahead and take that step of faith and give your life, the life that He has given you, back to him…surrender yourself, your ambitions, your concerns, your apprehensions to Him…he takes nothing away and gives you EVERYTHING!
Always remember that He loves you, that He is holding on to you and that He will never let go of you, He will never give up on you.
May God bless you and give you HOPE in your darkest hours.
